This page outlines guidelines on the acceptable use of generative AI technologies in manuscript preparation, based on Frontiers author guidelines.
Generative AI technologies (such as Large Language Models like ChatGPT, Jasper, and text-to-image generators like DALL-E 2, Midjourney, Stable Diffusion) are not to be listed as co-authors or authors of any submitted manuscript. These technologies cannot be held accountable for the entirety of a manuscript, hence failing to meet authorship criteria.
Should an author employ AI-generated content (written or visual) in their manuscript, the following rules apply:
AI use must be disclosed in the acknowledgements section of the manuscript and in the methods section if applicable. This acknowledgment must include the AI technology’s name, version, model, and source.
Furthermore, we encourage authors to submit all input prompts provided to, and outputs received from, a generative AI technology as supplementary files to the manuscript.
