A lot of the work we do at MLN Lab involves having an animated representation of the person in the virtual environment. To achieve this, there is a selection of methods that might suit your needs for a certain type of experiment.
You can either explore some tutorials and set this up yourself, or get a package that handles this for you. Most tutorials aren’t going to be fully complete, but most packages aren’t going to be very flexible. General advice is if you need just basic functionality, then look at the packages and pick the one that suits your project the most. If you need to do more complicated/specific work, consider going through some tutorials (in any case, this will help you understand what’s feasible and what isn’t).
You may want to explore how to set up everything from scratch. Fair warning: this isn’t easy. That’s why the good packages that handle this for you are quite expensive. Nonetheless, if you need something highly customizable where you understand all components that you are working with, this might be the way to go for you. To help you get started on this, here are some good tutorial (series) that go over this topic.
